Demonstrating consistent dedication, she earned her blue belt in August 2017 under the guidance of the late Orlando Sanchez from Gracie Barra. Lovato has openly credited grappling for significantly boosting her confidence and providing an effective outlet for stress management.

In 2018, Lovato transitioned her training to coach Chris Light, regularly practicing at Jay Glazer's Unbreakable Gym in Los Angeles. Due to her demanding professional schedule and the necessity of avoiding injuries that could impact her performances, Lovato primarily trained through private sessions. Despite these constraints, she maintained consistent mat time, demonstrating a disciplined approach to her Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu progression.

In early 2023, after approximately four years of dedicated training under Chris Light, Lovato was promoted to purple belt. Her promotion drew some skepticism within the BJJ community, prompting her coach to publicly defend the decision. Light emphasized Lovato's unwavering commitment, consistent attendance, and genuine dedication to technical improvement, asserting that her advancement was well-deserved despite her celebrity obligations.

Lovato frequently highlights Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a critical factor in improving her mental health. She describes BJJ as the most beneficial activity she has discovered for mental wellness, second only to meditation. Initially, Lovato faced restrictions from instructors concerned about potential injuries affecting her professional performances. Despite these limitations, she remained deeply committed to her training. Demonstrating her resilience and dedication, Lovato notably performed on stage wearing a foot brace after sustaining a training-related injury, choosing to fulfill her professional obligations rather than miss a performance.

Incorporating Striking Disciplines

In addition to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Lovato integrates boxing and kickboxing into her overall fitness and self-defense regimen. However, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu remains her primary martial arts focus, reflecting her deep appreciation and ongoing commitment to the discipline.
