Fabio Caloi

Fabio Caloi began his martial arts journey at age 7, initially training in Judo. His early passion for martial arts was sparked by action movie icons such as Jean Claude Van Damme, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li. After exploring Karate and Kung Fu, Caloi discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age 14. He began training under Diego Latorre, who awarded him his blue and purple belts, laying a solid foundation for his grappling career.

Following Diego Latorre's departure from coaching, Caloi transitioned to the prestigious Alliance Academy in São Paulo. Under the expert mentorship of legendary instructor Fabio Gurgel, Caloi refined his technical skills and strategic approach, earning his brown belt in 2011 and his black belt in July 2014. Caloi became part of a distinguished generation of grapplers emerging from Alliance's São Paulo headquarters, renowned for consistently producing world-class competitors.

Fabio Caloi's competitive career reached a significant milestone with an invitation to compete at the 2024 ADCC World Championships in the 77kg division. This prestigious invitation was earned through standout performances, including a silver medal at the 2022 ADCC South American Trials and impressive matches at the 2023 ADCC Brazil Trials. At the 2023 Brazil Trials, Caloi notably secured a submission victory via armbar against Rene Sousa in the quarterfinals before being narrowly defeated by Luiz Paulo in the semifinals.

Throughout his black belt career, Fabio Caloi has compiled an impressive record of 75 wins and 36 losses, with roughly half of his victories coming by submission. Known for his aggressive yet highly technical style, Caloi consistently seeks submission opportunities, particularly favoring the armbar. His precise setups and finishing mechanics have made this submission a hallmark of his competitive arsenal.

In addition to his competitive achievements, Fabio Caloi actively contributes to the growth of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as an instructor at Be Fit Sports Academy. His analytical approach to teaching emphasizes technical precision and strategic understanding, significantly enhancing his students' skills and promoting the broader practice of Jiu-Jitsu within the martial arts community.
