Navigating Injuries and Career Demands
Keenan's progression through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ranks was steady yet prolonged, primarily due to recurring injuries—particularly affecting his neck and back—and the rigorous demands of his music career. Despite these obstacles, he maintained consistent training, earning his purple belt in 2015 and holding this rank for several years.
Recognition and Advancement
In late 2021, Keenan's perseverance and technical refinement were recognized by Luis "Limão" Herédia, a prominent black belt under Rickson Gracie, who promoted him to brown belt. In January 2024, nearly three decades after beginning his journey, Keenan reached the significant milestone of receiving his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, celebrated by his long-time training partners and instructors.
