Victor Honorio

Victor Honório was born on October 12, 1993, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His martial arts journey began at the age of four under the guidance of his father, José Honório Filho, an accomplished martial artist holding a black belt in karate and extensive experience in Thai boxing and luta livre esportiva. Victor's early Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training took place at the renowned Top Brother academy, where he trained under Master Cezar Guimarães. Alongside jiu-jitsu, Honório immersed himself in judo and freestyle wrestling, excelling notably in wrestling. In 2010, he became the first Brazilian athlete to capture a Pan American wrestling title in the cadet division. During his teenage years, Victor further diversified his combat sports foundation by competing in amateur boxing and Muay Thai.

Initially training at Top Brother academy, Victor Honório later transitioned to the prestigious GF Team as a purple belt. Despite training at these renowned academies, all of Victor's belt promotions—including his black belt awarded in June 2015—were presented by his father, José Honório Filho. At GF Team, Honório quickly established himself as a standout competitor in the heavyweight division, known for his explosive guard passing and wrestling-based approach.

In 2017, Honório relocated to Qatar to coach grappling for the military, joining Qatar BJJ, a team recognized for its comprehensive self-defense curriculum tailored specifically for military personnel and its competitive grappling squad. This move provided Honório with financial stability, enabling him to continue competing internationally at the highest levels.

Victor Honório's no-gi career reached new heights when he won the 2017 ADCC Brazilian Trials, securing his spot at the prestigious 2017 ADCC World Championship. Competing in the +99 kg division, Honório showcased his aggressive wrestling and dynamic guard passing, earning impressive victories over Arman Zhanpeisov and Jesseray Childrey to advance to the semi-finals. His run concluded with a loss to veteran competitor Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu, marking a significant milestone in his competitive journey.

Throughout his career, Honório has secured notable victories against elite competitors such as João Gabriel Rocha, Erberth Santos, Jackson Sousa, Patrick Gaudio, and Nicholas Meregali. Demonstrating his ambition to test himself against the best, Honório has publicly expressed a strong desire to compete against legendary heavyweight Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida.

Despite dominating early rounds, Honório was forced to withdraw from the finals of the 2018 Brazilian Nationals due to severe food poisoning. Following this setback and subsequent injury-related hiatus, he returned to high-level competition in 2023, reaching the absolute final at the 2023 CBJJ Brazilian Nationals. This successful comeback signaled renewed competitive momentum and reaffirmed his position among the elite.

Victor Honório is widely recognized for his explosive and aggressive guard passing style, complemented by powerful wrestling techniques honed through extensive wrestling experience. His physical strength, dynamic movement, and relentless pressure have made him a formidable competitor in the ultra-heavyweight division.
