Andre Porfirio

André Porfirio began his martial arts journey at age 10, initially training in Thai boxing after being inspired by a close friend. His passion for combat sports quickly grew, prompting him to incorporate karate into his regimen by age 11. In July 2011, Porfirio discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under coach Alexandre Ranieri. Captivated by the technical depth and competitive potential of BJJ, he transitioned after only three months to train at Valdir Canuto's (Tio Chico) academy, renowned for its intense competition-oriented environment.

Determined to pursue Jiu-Jitsu professionally, André Porfirio relocated to São Paulo in December 2012 to train full-time under esteemed instructor Cicero Costha. Starting as a white belt, Porfirio rapidly ascended through the ranks, earning his blue, purple, and brown belts under Costha's guidance. During this period, he emerged as one of the most dominant athletes in the colored belt divisions, securing multiple IBJJF World Championship titles and establishing himself as a standout competitor of his generation.

Porfirio's competitive success led him to the United States, where he initially accepted a coaching position at a Renzo Gracie Academy affiliate in Orlando, Florida. While he enjoyed coaching, Porfirio recognized the need for a more competitive training environment to further his athletic development. In 2019, he joined the prestigious Fight Sports Academy in Miami, training under legendary competitor Roberto "Cyborg" Abreu. His dedication and consistent performance culminated in receiving his black belt from Abreu on June 17, 2020.

In early 2023, André Porfirio departed from Fight Sports to compete independently, driven by a desire to challenge himself beyond familiar training environments. Since then, he has actively expanded his personal brand through seminars and workshops, sharing his extensive technical knowledge and competitive experience. Porfirio has also expressed clear intentions to establish his own academy or affiliation, underscoring his long-term commitment to the growth and advancement of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Porfirio's versatility as a competitor was highlighted when he qualified for ADCC 2024 by winning the Brazilian Trials at 66kg, demonstrating notable improvements in speed, agility, and leglock proficiency. His adaptability across competition formats was further showcased through multiple victories at the Midwest Finishers absolute tournaments under submission-only rules. Additionally, Porfirio gained viral recognition for an extraordinary 88-point performance at a no-gi event in Ontario, overwhelming his opponent through relentless positional advancement and strategic pressure.

André Porfirio is widely recognized for his adaptability and effectiveness in both gi and no-gi competition formats. His competitive style emphasizes precise positional control, strategic pressure, and submission-oriented techniques. Porfirio consistently excels across various rule sets, including IBJJF, AJP, and submission-only events, solidifying his reputation as one of the most versatile and respected athletes in contemporary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
